As I stepped into the vast expanse of the Ukutula Lion Reserve, a reserve roughly an hour’s drive from Johannesburg, I was embarking on more than just a journey; I was stepping into a profound learning experience.
I have always had a fascination with Africa
In my head, I always pictured it as endless savannahs under enormous blue skies and sunsets that look like a crazy mix of colours — think bright oranges and deep purples all smeared across the sky. It’s where you can hear lions roaring out of nowhere at night, breaking the silence. And you’ve got these massive elephants just ambling about peacefully in that soft, golden light as the sun rises.
My husband also shared a desire to explore Africa.
The first time we visited was on our honeymoon. Without any preconceived ideas about what to expect, we were both blown away by the scenery, the people, and the experiences.
Our last visit to Africa happened to coincide with my husband’s birthday.
